“Exquisite Corpse Series”

Sher created the Exquisite Corpse series during her residency at Art Farm, Nebraska over two consecutive summers. In Art Farm, she found a lost object paradise—a mishmash of relocated buildings, salvaged materials, vintage artifacts, and projects left behind by past residents. In the exquisite corpses, Sher imagines a surreal space that functions to both archive and repurpose. Hundreds of spinning still lifes become video building blocks for new identities.

Marissa Sher is a writer, multimedia artist, and surrealist. For her video work, she builds sculptures and still lifes by hand, then moves the elements with the help of animatronics. She’s spent twelve plus years working as a set and product designer in the film industry, including seven seasons leading the film unit graphics team at Saturday Night Live. Her writing on digital art and the female body has been published by The Independent and Painters on Paintings. Her video work has been exhibited at Top of the Rock, CADAF NYC, CADAF Paris, NowHere Gallery, and as part of collections for Artpoint, Infinite Objects, and Lindblad Expeditions. She’s currently completing her MFA in fiction writing at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
