Ad Jökla – Becoming Glacier

Anne-Sophie Balzer is a journalist, poet and PhD candidate in English Lit from Bavaria, Germany. Both her academic projects and the more creative and practice-driven work is engaged with glaciers and the cryosphere; glaciers in literature and actual glaciers in the European Alps, in Norway and in the US. Ad Jökla – Becoming Glacier is the first project in video format and grew out of conversations and glacier excursions with Julian Stettler as well as an ever-growing list poem called What Glaciers Do. She spends the rest of 2023 in Washington State on a Fulbright, writing, researching, teaching, and hopefully visiting some glaciers. In addition she serves as Poetry Guest Editor for Blood Orange Review, a literary journal out of Washington State University (subtle hint to all you fellow cryophilics out there to submit). http://www.annesophiebalzer.com

Julian Stettler is a photographer, artist and visual storyteller based in Olten, Switzerland. In his artistic practice he explores strategies of making humans aware of their deep entanglement with all forms of existence, thus fostering respectful, ecologically aware ways of life. His first monograph The Glacier is A Being is forthcoming with STURM & DRANG Publishing at the end of 2023, including visual meditations on and for ten different glaciers in Switzerland as well as essays and poetry. https://www.julianstettler.ch/
